Beat the Heat: Stay Safe and Cool This Summer!
As temperatures rise, it’s important to take a few simple steps to stay safe, healthy, and comfortable. Whether you’re working, relaxing, or out and about, here are some easy ways to beat the heat and help others do the same:
- Stay Hydrated
Drink plenty of water—even if you don’t feel thirsty. Avoid sugary, caffeinated, or alcoholic drinks, which can dehydrate you. Keep a refillable water bottle handy and sip throughout the day. - Protect Yourself from the Sun
Wear sunscreen with SPF30 or higher, re-apply every 2 hours, and don’t forget your hat and sunglasses! If possible, stay in the shade or indoors during peak sun hours (10am to 4pm). - Keep Cool
Use fans or air conditioning. Take cool showers, wear light and breathable clothing, and close curtains during the hottest parts of the day. If your home gets too hot, find a cool space. - Check in on Others
High heat can be dangerous—especially for older adults, young children, and people with medical conditions. Take a moment to check in on neighbours, friends, and family. A quick call or visit could make a difference.
Let’s all do our part to stay cool, stay safe, and look out for each other this summer.
