What is Sleepstation?
Sleepstation is an online service designed to help people who are struggling with sleep problems, including long-term insomnia. It provides access to Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBTi), a proven, structured treatment that helps you change thoughts and behaviours that affect your sleep.
National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends CBTi as the first treatment for chronic insomnia, rather than sleeping tablets.
More than 80% of people who complete the full CBTi programme with Sleepstation report significant improvements in their sleep and quality of life. It can also help those who need lower-intensity sleep coaching and support.
How Does Sleepstation Work?
Sleepstation is:
- Fully online (no app download needed for NHS patients)
- Personalised to you
- Supported by real people
After signing up, you’ll complete a detailed sleep review. This helps identify what may be causing your sleep difficulties. Based on your results, you’ll receive a personalised sleep plan.
A team of sleep experts, healthcare professionals and trained coaches will:
- Develop your tailored programme
- Monitor your progress
- Provide guidance and support through secure online messaging
You can work through the programme in your own time, with access to helpful tools, resources and professional support throughout.
Most programmes last 3-9 weeks, depending on your needs.
Importantly, Sleepstation helps people improve their sleep without relying on medication.
Why Consider Sleepstation?
Good sleep is essential for both physical health and emotional wellbeing. When we sleep better, we feel better.
Sleep problems are common:
- Around 50% of people experience occassional insomnia
- Around 19% experience chronic insomnia
- About 1 in 10 people visit their GP each year because of sleep issues
Because sleep problems are so common, finding safe and effective long-term solutions is important. CBTi is recommended as the most effective long-term treatment for insomnia.
Do I Need Sleeping Tablets?
Sleeping tablets can sometimes help in the short term. However:
- They are not recommended for long-term use
- They can cause side effects
- They may become less effective over time
- Some carry a risk of dependence
Sleepstation focuses on treating the underlying causes of insomnia, helping you build natural, lasting sleep habits without medication.
If you are currently taking sleep medication, your GP can advise you on the best approach.
Am I Suitable for Sleepstation?
Sleepstation is suitable for many adults experiencing sleep difficulties. However, it may not be appropriate if you:
- Are under 18
- Cannot access the internet daily
- Have epilepsy or a history of seizures
- Have bipolar disorder or a history of mania
- Have schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, or a history of psychosis
- Are currently detoxing from drugs or alcohol
- Are at high risk of falls
It may also be less suitable if:
- Your insomnia is caused solely by pregnancy discomfort
- You regularly switch between day and night shifts
