This week is Type 2 Diabetes Prevention Week, a time to raise awareness about one of the most common yet preventable health conditions in the world.
Type 2 diabetes can develop gradually and often goes unnoticed in its early stages. But with the right knowledge and lifestyle changes, it can be delayed or even prevented.
Why it matters:
- An estimated 6.3 million people live with prediabetes, but many are not aware of this.
- Risk factors include being overweight, inactivity, age over 40 (or over 25 for black or South Asian individuals), and family history.
- Early action can make a real difference.
What you can do:
- Know your risk. Find out your risk of type 2 diabetes by using the Diabetes UK Know Your Risk Score at riskscore.diabetes.org.uk or by searching ‘Know Your Risk’.
- Eat well. A balanced diet supports blood sugar control and overall health.
- Get moving. Regular physical activity helps the body use insulin more effectively.
- Stay informed. The more you know, the better equipped you are to make healthy choices.
Join us in spreading the word and supporting friends, family, and communities to live healthier lives.
